UK Devolution for HR & Payroll Professionals - Understanding Regional Differences
Speaker
Introduction
The HR and payroll functions operate UK-wide. These do not operate, for example, on an ‘English employees only’ basis. So, likewise, the software we use must be capable of administering the records and payments for employees from every part of the UK.
By now, employers will, or should have, realised that not all parts of the Employment Rights Act 2025 apply equally across the whole of the UK, for example, the employment law changes relating to Statutory Paternity Leave. Employers must ensure that employees receive the correct rights and avoid accidentally granting or withholding rights that do not apply under the relevant regional legislation.
Building on this understanding, the purpose of this 30-minute webinar is to highlight devolution considerations, helping employers determine whether their policies and processes need to be adapted. Further, as processing is done via software, it poses the question of how far this should reach in determining eligibility and facilitating the correct employment right and/or payment.
From employment law to income tax, from holiday leave to student loans, we operate as a United Kingdom, but in practice, administration is increasingly divergent across the regions.
