Payroll & Policy - Alignment of the Minimum Wage & National Living Wage
Introduction
On 5 August 2025, the UK Government committed to removing the ‘discriminatory’ age bands that apply to adult workers. In practice, this means the move to extending the entitlement to the National Living Wage to workers aged 18 and over, currently aged 21 and over.
This policy intention is something employers have known about, though knowing the intention and applying it in practice are two different things. Remember, this will apply to employers, so this impacts anyone processing payroll for an employer, e.g. bookkeepers, accountants and payroll bureaux.
This bite-sized webinar looks at how alignment will be achieved in this UK Parliamentary session, the implications this will have on the other rates of the National Minimum Wage and considerations for anyone processing payroll and how to implement these changes smoothly in the workplace.
