Introduction

Parental alienation as a concept has attracted considerable controversy over the last decade. The label is often considered unhelpful as there is no scientific basis for the term and it is not classified as a disease or a syndrome.

Nonetheless, the term ‘alienating behaviour’ is often used in cases where there is unexplained reluctance or refusal of children to spend time with a parent.

This virtual classroom seminar will explore the difficulties with this behaviour in children proceedings, when it is appropriate to seek separate representation for children in private law cases and when a local authority should issue public law proceedings.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive course will cover the following:

  • Identifying alienating behaviours in private law children cases
  • Separate representation of children in private law cases with intractable contact disputes
  • Consideration of expert assessments in cases where alienating behaviour is alleged
  • When alienating behaviours identified amount to significant harm and lead to public law proceedings
  • Review of case law
  • Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
