Introduction

On 11 July 2023 the National Security Act became law. Its main objective is to deter, detect and disrupt modern threats to the UK by foreign states.

The Act overhauls the offences of espionage and establishes brand-new offences targeting the theft of trade secrets, sabotage of UK interests and safety and foreign interference. Offences can be committed by individuals as well as companies.

Further, the Act also introduces a new registration scheme for persons involved in political influence activities and contains a suite of wide-ranging investigative powers.

There are significant implications for lawyers and other professionals advising commercial organisations as well as individuals who could be seen to hold political influence.

Presented by expert speaker Anita Clifford, this new virtual classroom seminar will bring you up to speed with the new offences and ensures you and your clients are well prepared from a compliance perspective.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • The key offences
  • How a company can be exposed to prosecution
  • When persons must add themselves to the register and what can happen if you do not
  • The scope of the investigative powers and what to do if you receive an investigative order

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
