Introduction

High-profile coroner’s inquests have made it to national headlines in recent years, spotlighting complex legal, ethical, and reputational issues.

On a wider level, inquests have continued to throw up challenges for interested persons including the bereaved, private and public organisations, and other individuals involved. Organisations risk reputational damage and the prospect of negative reports by coroners to prevent further deaths (’PFD’) in accordance with regulation 28 of the Coroners (Investigation) Regulations 2013.

This webinar will explore key developments taking effect in 2026 and further changes now on the horizon that those involved in inquests should look out for. The session is aimed at legal professionals already conducting inquest work but will also be of general interest to those who are new to this area and others keen to refresh their knowledge.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • 2025 Chief Coroner’s Guidance for Coroner’s on the Bench (the “Bench Book”)
  • Case law update (including developments in Art 2 ECHR inquests)
  • New developments with PFD reports

This pre-recorded webinar will be available to view from Friday 20th February 2026

Alternatively, you can gain access to this webinar and 1,900+ others via the MBL Webinar Subscription. Please email webinarsubscription@mblseminars.com for more details.
