Introduction

Client money reconciliations are one of the clearest day-to-day tests of whether a CASS framework is genuinely working. Where reconciliations are weak, wider issues around data quality, record accuracy, unresolved breaks, poor escalation and weak control discipline tend to become visible very quickly.

This virtual classroom seminar focuses on how reconciliations fail in practice, how firms should investigate and evidence breaks properly and what good handling of shortfalls, excesses and escalation looks like. You will leave with a clearer understanding of what separates a reconciliation process that merely runs from one that is reliable, well controlled and capable of standing up to challenge.

What you will learn

This live and interactive course will cover the following:

  • The role of internal and external client money reconciliations within the wider CASS control framework
  • The core data inputs, dependencies and control points needed to support a robust reconciliation process
  • Common causes of reconciliation breaks, including timing issues, data weaknesses, incomplete records and process failures
  • How to investigate breaks properly and produce narratives that are clear, supportable and useful
  • Handling shortfalls and excesses in practice, including ownership, judgement, escalation and remediation
  • Dealing with manual adjustments, aged items, recurring reconciling differences and other warning signs of weak control
  • What effective MI, oversight and challenge look like around reconciliations
  • How to distinguish between a reconciliation process that is running and one that is genuinely operating well
