Introduction
The Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act 2025 received royal assent on 2 December 2025 and 2026 will see its implementation in various stages. Many of the provisions entered into force on 5 January 2026.
The sweeping changes, affecting asylum and international protection applications, border security and crime, business immigration, detention and immigration bail powers, and a new fast-track asylum appeal process, mean that practitioners in various fields need to ensure awareness and familiarity of the impacts.
