Introduction

In an ideal world, everyone would have a valid lasting or enduring power of attorney in place so that if they lost capacity to manage their finances themselves, their chosen attorney(s) would be able to act for them.

Unfortunately, though, many people do not have this safeguard in place, for whatever reason.
