Introduction

Understanding accounts is often one of the factors relevant to legal matters such as the purchase and sale of companies, contractual disputes and matrimonial matters, as well as company law compliance.

This 3 hour live broadcast session is designed to alert lawyers to the key issues in reading accounts and advising clients plus the recent changes in company law and accounting standards.

This online session will not make you an expert but it will help you to brief experts and assess what they tell you. It is aimed at lawyers involved in commercial and other work where a knowledge of what is in accounts - especially company accounts - is essential to giving best advice and client service.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • Identify the differences between a balance sheet, profit and loss account and cash flow statement - and the key factors which impact on each
    • What are the key elements?
    • How are they recognised?
    • How are they measured or valued?
    • How will they change under new UK GAAP?
  • Understand the part played by the selection of accounting policies and how to assess the accounting policies used
  • Which notes to the accounts should be looked at most closely - and why
  • The interaction between accounts and tax
  • Assess what the report on the accounts - if any - means, whether audited or not
  • Liaise with clients and other professional advisers on accounting related issues
  • Understand the potential impact on lawyer's practice accounts

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
