Roger Tym
Roger has recently (semi-)retired after around 20 years as a partner in Lovells and then Hogan Lovells. For the past few years, he led the Hogan Lovells Global Payments Practice and has spent significant time supporting banks, other lenders, payment firms, and fintechs and advising on developing payments, crypto, blockchain and other tech-based financial services businesses, products, services and transactions in addition to more traditional banking business. Payments overlap with other practice areas and Roger has focussed also on other aspects of banking and consumer finance for many years. As examples, he negotiated the Banking Conduct of Business Handbook and related Industry Guidance for the banking industry (through the British Bankers Association) with the (then) Financial Services Authority, advised some founding members on membership of China Union Pay International, has been primary adviser on establishment and operation of some major banks, has acted as an FCA Skilled Person and has been a member of the HL team advising HM Treasury on financial services, including recently on areas very relevant to this topic.
