Nicola Cain is the founder, CEO and Principal Consultant at Handley Gill Limited, an award-winning legal and regulatory compliance consultancy with specialisms in data protection, AI governance, online safety, information access, ESG and human rights. Handley Gill services clients in the UK and globally, from start-ups and small businesses to multi-national corporations, across a range of industries including media, social media, financial services and other regulated industries, technology, law enforcement, software development, healthcare, political parties, sport and retail, as well as charities and the public sector. Nicola holds the IAPP’s CIPP/E and AIGP certifications and has completed the University of Oxford Saïd Business School Oxford AI Programme. Previously Head of Legal at the BBC with responsibility for data protection and freedom of information and a former City law firm partner, Nicola has over a decade of experience advising on the application and enforcement of data protection law including the GDPR, UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). Nicola has drafted and negotiated scores of data processing agreements, ensuring her clients meet their legal and regulatory obligations and are appropriately protected against risk.
