Introduction

The UK Money Markets Code (‘the Code’) was first published by the Bank of England in 2017, around the same time as the FX Global Code and the Global Precious Metal Code in the wake of a raft of financial scandals and the Bank of England’s Fair & Effective Markets Review of June 2014 (‘FEMR’), which was co-chaired by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority and the UK’s HM Treasury. In November 2025, the latest iteration of the Code was recognised by the FCA as representing an industry standard.

What You Will Learn

This short webinar will cover the following:

  • Understand briefly the background to the UK Money Markets Code by reference to FEMR and the extent to which some of FEMR’s central aims have been achieved
  • Identify key updates following the latest review of the UK Money Markets Code, observations about changes to it and the extent to which certain of the core aims of FEMR have been achieved
  • Recognise current and emerging regulatory and UK market developments which may impact UK Money Markets Code participants, such as the UK Implementation Plan for the first day of trading for T+1 settlement on 11 October 2027; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the UK’s updated short selling regime in respect of which the FCA consulted in Q4 2025
