Introduction

From 6 April 2025, the UK’s new Foreign Income and Gains (FIG) regime will replace the long-standing Remittance Basis, offering a valuable four-year exemption from UK tax on non-UK income and gains for eligible new residents.

However, the rules are complex and navigating them effectively requires careful planning.

This new virtual classroom seminar will provide a clear and comprehensive overview of the FIG regime, highlighting key opportunities, common pitfalls, and practical strategies to help taxpayers and their advisors make the most of this significant change.

This session is aimed at accountants, tax advisors, private client lawyers and global mobility specialists who have clients who are considering becoming UK residents or have been UK resident for less than 4 years.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • Who is eligible for the FIG regime and how the relief actually works
  • What types of income and gains can qualify and, importantly, what types cannot
  • The interaction of the FIG regime and Overseas Workday Relief
  • How a claim is made, time limits and the downsides to a claim
  • Implications of the FIG regime for relief under double tax treaties
  • How the FIG regime interacts with the settlements legislation, transfer of assets abroad and the offshore trust CGT provisions
  • Practical planning ideas for UK residents and potential residents

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
