Introduction

HMRC will be given £79m over the next five years to recruit more staff in an effort to raise in excess of £725m additional revenue in the same period from tackling fraud, error and general tax non-compliance.

These efforts from HMRC in a time of political uncertainty with an ever-increasing focus on fiscal policy will mean tax investigations for all firms will continue to be a growth area. It is however also an area not for the faint hearted or ill informed.

Where there are large sums of money involved and the threat of potential criminal investigation specialist advice is often sought. In this arena, where HMRC are investigating a taxpayer using Code of Practice 9 great care should be taken.

This virtual classroom session aims to make you more comfortable with a COP9 procedure and understand what is required from the adviser and how to make a comprehensive disclosure.
