Renting Homes (Wales) Act - A Guide to Standard Occupation Contracts
Introduction
The transitional period has ended and the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 is now fully in force in England and Wales. This Act sees a great difference between English and Welsh housing law. Tenancies are now consigned to the history books, replaced by occupation contracts. The changes however represent more than differing terminology but a completely new approach to this area of law in Wales.
With the Act primarily focussed on providing greater security to contract holders (formerly tenants), the implications of not complying with the legislation can be more than a failed possession claim. It can leave landlords unable to issue fresh proceedings for lengthy periods.
This webinar is aimed at those practising in the private housing sector in Wales. It will provide an overview of the key parts of the Act in relation to private rental properties (now called ‘standard occupation contracts’) providing an overview of its’ requirements and how to ensure compliance is achieved.
