Introduction

This new virtual classroom session will explore ways in which you can attempt to predict the outcomes of claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975.

The variety of different types of family and personal circumstances that can lead to claims under the Act is vast, leading the Supreme Court to comment that the lack of guidance on valuation is unsatisfactory, and that each case turns on its own facts.

The session will look at the differing types of remedy and the range of factors under consideration in such claims with a view to trying to reduce the unpredictability that arises.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive course will cover the following:

  • Factors taken into account in financial provision claims
  • Differing remedies available
  • The impact of conduct (applicant, beneficiary or testator) on the outcome
  • Predicting the award in claims by:
    • Adult children
    • Surviving spouses
    • Cohabitees

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
