Payment in Construction Contracts - A 2024 Update
Introduction
This 2024 update webinar explores the legislative cornerstone for industry that is the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 (as amended) plus the associated Exclusion Order and the Scheme for Construction Contracts.
Construction progress and performance still rely heavily on the ‘lifeblood’ of cash flow, activity and productivity and the Act acts as a statutory cushion to contracts. All industry participants in commercial projects should be up to date on their rights and responsibilities on payment.
This webinar explores the latest key rights and responsibilities for ‘construction contracts’ and sets out step-by-step the required legal minimum standards, including reference to the statutory Scheme which is implied to correct contract deficiencies. Pragmatic advice for compliance is tackled to bring the law to life, so that contract managers and certifiers know what to do, when, and why. Recent cases including Lidl v Closed Circuit (2023) and Bellway Homes v Surgo (2024) will highlight industry’s continual wrestling to comply with contract and law.
The webinar is designed for individuals who work in, or advise on, construction contracts and/or are responsible for commercial, finance and contract administration.
