Introduction

The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II), and the associated Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (‘MiFIR’) have been in force since 2018, with revisions during the COVID period (the ‘Quick Fix’ directive), and a slow but steady divergence in regulatory provisions between the UK and the EU post Brexit.

In this period numerous fines and sanctions have been imposed by the UK FCA and the EU National Competent Authorities (NCA) for non-compliance/malfeasance under the MiFID II framework, and incomplete/incorrect transaction reporting under MiFIR. In conjunction with this, the European regulators (ESMA and NCAs) have introduced significant changes to MiFID II and MiFIR (the upcoming ‘MiFID III’ and ‘MiFIR II’).

This webinar reviews the MiFIR regulatory reporting compliance journey to date, focusing on the key challenges encountered by financial institutions, with resultant errors and omissions and significant learnings within implementation programs. It equips regulatory reporting teams with actionable insights into the MiFIR requirements, scope, classifications, critical data fields, and validation rules.

This webinar ensures teams can align with regulatory expectations, optimise reporting workflows, and mitigate compliance risks.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • The MiFID II regulatory framework and MiFIR Transaction Reporting requirements for UK (FCA) and EU (ESMA, NCAs), including the regulatory imperatives, scope and current status of implementation, and impact of MiFIR 2
  • Investment firm, client/entity/counterparty, venue, product, instrument and transaction scope, and third country implications
  • Challenges around delegated reporting and mitigation, accuracy and completeness requirements
  • Best practices for transaction, instrument, venue and entity/client reporting submissions
  • Developing an action plan for Compliance, Audit and Regulatory Reporting frameworks
