The EU’s Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive has created a pan-EU marketing passport for European managers of European funds.

For other managers marketing into the EU, the national private placement regimes create a patchwork of availability.

Added to this, the recent introduction of the Cross Border Distribution of Funds Directive establishes additional restrictions on pre-marketing of funds, and MiFID regulates the investment activities carried on by managers when they are fundraising, as well as persons acting on their behalf.
