Law Society of Ireland Inspections 2027 - What Solicitor Firms Should Expect & How to Prepare

Introduction

The Law Society of Ireland is responsible for the regulation and oversight of solicitors’ practices in Ireland.

It is the Law Society’s policy to inspect a solicitors’ practice within three years of its commencement and thereafter, as a matter of routine, approximately once every five years. However, inspections may take place more frequently where, for example, a complaint involving financial matters is received or a serious qualification is recorded in the firm’s annual accountant’s report.

A Law Society inspection may include a review of the firm’s internal records and procedures, together with its compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Regulations 2023, the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015 and anti-money laundering legislation.

Given the breadth of the review, a Law Society inspection is one of the most comprehensive regulatory inspections that a solicitors’ practice in Ireland may face.
