Introduction

MLROs, finance directors and senior compliance professionals are expected to do more than maintain policies and complete routine compliance checks. They must understand their organisation’s financial crime exposure, exercise sound judgment in difficult cases and demonstrate that AML controls are effective in practice.

Regulators increasingly focus on governance, senior management oversight, the quality of risk assessments and whether an organisation can evidence that its procedures are properly implemented. Weak escalation, inadequate resources, poor documentation or a failure to respond to warning signs can expose both the business and responsible individuals to significant risk.

This new advanced level virtual classroom seminar will examine the strategic and practical challenges faced by senior professionals responsible for AML and financial crime compliance. It will use realistic examples to explore difficult decisions, governance expectations and the lessons arising from regulatory and enforcement action.

It is designed for MLROs, MLCOs, finance directors, heads of compliance, senior risk professionals and others with significant responsibility for AML compliance in an AML-regulated organisation. A sound working knowledge of the AML framework is assumed.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • The role, responsibilities and potential exposure of the MLRO and senior management
  • The importance of oversight and accountability
  • Moving from documented compliance to operational effectiveness
  • Managing risk effectively in a business environment
  • Handling difficult customer due diligence and beneficial ownership issues
  • Managing higher-risk clients, transactions, jurisdictions and delivery channels
