Introduction

The importance of telecommunications to 21st Century society cannot be understated - it has even been quaintly referred to in recent court proceedings as ‘the human right of mobile telephony’. In order to ensure the rollout and subsequent maintenance of high quality digital connectivity, telecoms companies are seeking to acquire new sites and regear existing sites for their networks.

The Government enacted the new Electronic Communications Code (‘ECC’) within the Digital Economy Act 2017, updating the existing law which controlled the installation and maintenance of telecoms apparatus and equipment on land.

Whether acting for private individuals, corporations or public bodies, the ECC is complex and navigating the new law is crucial in order to provide tailored and appropriate advice to clients faced with an approach from a telecoms operator.

This webinar shall outline the legal and strategic factors that should be considered when acting for landowners in the context of the ECC.
