Introduction

This virtual classroom seminar is designed for family lawyers involved in private children law who regularly assist clients with issues surrounding education and the impact it has on the parties and their children.

This live session is particularly useful for those of you who want to obtain a practical guide around current caselaw in this area. It will endeavour to provide tactical hints and tips for the busy family lawyer.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • Parental responsibility and the need for urgent orders to stop a child being taken out of the school by one parent without the other person’s knowledge or consent
  • How to trace which school a child is attending when one party removes the children from one school and disappears
  • The issue of one parent changing a child’s first name/surname and the responsibility of the educational authority. Is there any difference for adolescent children?
  • Conflicting attitudes towards new schools/entrance exams. How does the court determine these issues? Procedure and tactical advice when considering different options
  • When is an absence authorised/unauthorised by the school?
  • What impact could a child’s additional needs or disability have on the outcome of a case. What types of evidence might assist the court? How can the evidence be obtained?
  • When can medical experts be used in private law cases?

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
