Introduction

Legal aid very high cost cases (i.e. over £25,000 excluding VAT) concerning applications for care orders and supervision orders are automatically subject to the Care Case Fees Schemes (Events); where the instructed solicitor, and in some cases counsel, is paid a fixed fee per ‘event’ in the case.

This webinar will provide you with both an introduction to using this scheme and a more detailed understanding of the various scenarios that can occur and how to ensure that you are paid everything the scheme offers.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • Cases that CCFS can apply to and when
  • When a fixed event fee is triggered in the case and when it is not, and why
  • Using the LAA’s online systems, CCMS, with the CCFS
  • Maintaining cash-flow during the case - default costs limits, agreeing interim case plans and claiming payments on account
  • Differences between CCFS models for cases using one counsel and more than one counsel
  • Options for previous solicitors who were instructed under the same legal aid certificate and what the responsibilities of the current solicitors are
  • What counsel gets paid
  • Care cases entirely falling outside of the CCFS and deadlines to look out for
  • Work that escapes events and what will be paid for this
  • The case plan and claiming with minimum hassle - how to ensure cases are efficiently compiled and final case plans can be agreed and claimed quickly
