Introduction

Many professionals have the technical skills at their disposal to do their jobs to a very high standard, but they sometimes need to develop their personal and business skills in order to get the outcomes that they want at work.

This virtual classroom seminar explores a number of aspects of personal effectiveness at work. A series of practical exercises and case studies will be used and delegates will be given the chance to discuss the challenges that they face.

This session is aimed at any business professional who is seeking to be more effective in the workplace and get more out of their day. The programme is typically targeted at junior managers, though other members of an office team will also benefit from attending. Added focus will be given to the challenges faced when working remotely.

What You Will Learn

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • How to manage your time more effectively by setting clear personal objectives, prioritising tasks and monitoring progress
  • How to identify stakeholders and meet their expectations; and
  • How to manage superiors, peers and junior staff assertively without damaging your relationships
  • Setting personal objectives
    • Being outcome-focussed means you deliver better results. Delegates will learn how to establish short and long term goals, how to link these to manageable task lists and how to track progress to ensure that their objectives are achieved
  • Prioritising tasks
    • During this session, we will help delegates to distinguish between urgent and important tasks and how to manage their day to ensure that adequate consideration is given to each. Diary management and 'to do lists' will also be covered
  • Management styles
    • Flexibility of approach is crucial when managing others at work. We will look at what different people in different roles need from their manager and how flexing your management style can be effective
  • Influence and Communication
    • We will look at how to communicate effectively and appropriately influence others. The session will look at different ways we get our message across and the common pitfalls including what to watch out for when communicating remotely. We will also explore how different personality and social styles impact on our relationships and how adapting our own style can reap huge rewards when dealing with others in the workplace
  • Assertiveness
    • This session will help delegates distinguish to between assertive, aggressive and passive behaviours and will introduce a simple three step model to a get a point across clearly without seeming rude. This will include situations where a member of a team needs to say 'no' when swamped with requests for work
  • Feedback
    • Giving and receiving feedback is critical but often shied away from. We will show how to use the assertive three step model to help you give and get more feedback
  • Managing conflict
    • Conflict is common at work but is often handled badly. We will introduce delegates to a number of conflict resolution strategies and help them establish which ones work best, when and why
  • Motivation
    • Motivation is crucial to effectiveness in the work place. We will discuss what motivates people to come to work and the strategies that delegates can adopt to maximise their own self-motivation and for, those managing teams, to maximise the motivation of others
