Introduction

Letters of intent are commonplace within the UK construction industry.

Where projects go well, the fact that work started out under a letter of intent causes few problems, however, when disputes or issues arise the status and effect of the letter of intent can become acutely problematic.

This virtual classroom seminar will provide a summary of the key legal principles and practical tips, with a discussion of relevant caselaw.

It will guide you through the shark-infested waters of using letters of intent on construction projects.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • What is a letter of intent?
  • Are they a necessary evil or is there an alternative to their use?
  • What happens if a formal contract is never properly executed?
  • Criteria to be fulfilled for a court to find that there is a concluded agreement
  • What happens if there is no concluded agreement and why might that be a problem for the parties?
  • Can construction professionals be liable for failures relating to letters of intent?
  • What can you do differently when the use of a letter of intent is proposed?

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
