Introduction

We live in an increasingly complex and uncertain world. There are risks a legal team is responsible for in an organisation and others for which they may have some accountability. There are other risks the legal team will only need to be informed of and some of no interest at all to it.

As lawyers, company secretaries and compliance specialists, how well are you equipped to giving appropriate, proportionate and valuable guidance when steering your organisations through that complexity and uncertainty?

This virtual classroom session will look at how you can create good risk governance processes and provide appropriate and proportionate advice to help your employers, internal customers and clients when navigating complex situations in a volatile world.

This session has been described as bringing to life risk management in a human way, providing enlightenment as well as knowledge. Above all it is peppered with real life examples, practical insights and a solid, easy to use framework to encourage a healthy approach to risk from a legal, compliance and assurance perspective.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • Why traditional risk management fails
  • How your personal relationship with risk taking affects your decision making and therefore the systems you create and guidance that you provide
  • How risk appetite is defined in an organisation
  • How to create risk frameworks that meet ‘best in class’ governance standards, yet create flexibility to address complex problems
  • Consider the mistakes you make and why sometimes getting it wrong is good in the long term
  • Gives lawyers, company secretaries and compliance specialists the confidence to guide colleagues when surrounded by uncertainty

Feedback from previous course delegates:

  • “Ian presented extremely well, and mercifully, was able to do so as an engaging and sympathetic person; not stuck on legalese and valuing the subtle.”
  • “Absolutely excellent. Really good, practical information well delivered - couldn’t ask for a better speaker.”
  • “Excellent speaker and clearly very knowledgeable. Presented subject in a clear and engaging way. Very impressive!”
