Patents & FRAND Licenses - Recent Developments & Problems Explained
This new half day course will explain the developments over FRAND (fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory) licences and their use in standard essential patent regimes.
FRAND licences are an essential requirement where a patent is essential to a telecommunications standard.
Given how our lives are now so reliant on technological devices - smartphones, computers and alike - the essential need of devices to all talk to one another has created a regime distinct to other areas of patents and licensing. For our smart world to function, all this technology in each component must work together. This means working to standards.
Although these standards are critical to the modern world, they pose difficult patent-licensing problems, and this course will explain why.
