For many years health and work-related absences meant physical illnesses. However, there has been a significant shift recently towards an acknowledgement that poor mental health was the most common cause of long-term sickness absences from staff in UK workplaces. The importance of mental health and the impact which it has on our working lives is now widely recognised.

This live broadcast session will inform managers how to recognise signs of ill health and provide appropriate support as well as understanding the legal obligations employers have under the Equality Act.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • The responsibility to protect employees under the Equality Act
  • Facilitating conversations about stress and mental health issues and looking at systems which can be put in place so employees can stay well and perform at their best
  • How to make suitable reasonable adjustments for employees experiencing a mental health condition so that the individual is not disadvantaged compared to non-disabled people
  • Holistic approach to wellbeing at work as part of a wider workplace policy and wellbeing strategies including Employees Assistance Programmes
  • The role, responsibilities and qualities required for a mental health first aider in the workplace - and the support they need
