Introduction

The Energy Efficiency Regulations 2015 (known as MEES) are seen as complex, difficult to understand and leave plenty of room for uncertainty.

Effective from April 2018, MEES require a minimum EPC rating of 'E' before commercial leases can be granted (including renewals) and from April 2023, before they can continue.

MEES provides that where an EPC rating is either 'F' or 'G', then works will have to be carried out to bring it to at least an 'E', unless an exemption applies.

This live broadcast session will explain the vital information you need to know including:

  • Practical guidance on how the regulations apply to commercial property and the scenarios that will likely require legal advice
  • A better understanding of how EPCs are produced (and how to prepare for them)
  • The routes for MEES exemption and the likely impact on landlord and tenant issues and lease drafting
  • Best practice in identifying MEES risk in portfolios and how to mitigate it

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • A review of both EPC and MEES regulations including scope, trigger points and timeline of compliance going forward
  • A run through of the information contained in EPCs and how to do a quick EPC due diligence
  • The temporary MEES exemptions available
  • The practicalities for compliance with MEES in commercial buildings and the uncertainties that will likely cause a headache in the near future
  • The financial penalties available to the enforcement bodies
  • How to identify risk and determine the most cost-effective way to improve 'F' or 'G'-rated buildings via a recent case study
  • How to register an exemption

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
