A holidaymaker might suffer food poisoning or be injured in an unsafe swimming pool at a hotel on a holiday booked in the UK; or may suffer a collision with a foreign registered vehicle either in the UK or while driving in Europe.

Doubly complicating matters, the law is in a state of flux and confusion; primarily because questions of jurisdiction and foreign service have been poorly considered in the Brexit transition period.
