Introduction

This session follows on from the FCA’s introduction of mandatory TCFD reporting which links back to the SFDR and taxonomy regulation in the EU.

This virtual classroom session will explore the Paris Climate Agreement as well international developments following COP26, the SFDR and taxonomy regulation in the EU.

The UK’s international commitments will also be explored together with the disclosure rules relating to mandatory TCFD reporting and the FCA’s strategy for ESG priorities. If you are an investment/asset manager or a financial services lawyer advising private wealth banks or asset managers then this course is for you.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

International Background

  • Setting the scene internationally including a brief explanation of the Paris Climate Agreement and the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures
  • An update on international developments following COP26

Domestic Background

  • An explanation of what the UK is doing re its own international commitments, including government policy developments
  • A summary of the Green Finance Roadmap published by the government in October last year

Disclosure Rules in the UK

  • A focus on the mandatory TCFD reporting for financial services firms and their products
  • The current rules, including:
    • Firms affected
    • The timing of implementation
    • Summary of the obligations
    • Summary of what firms need to include in their disclosures
    • The territorial scope
    • The impact on delegation re the new rules
  • The FCA’s ‘Dear Chair’ letter published in July last year re guiding principles on the design, delivery and disclosure of ESG and sustainable investment funds will be explored.

Looking to the Future

  • The proposed product labelling regime and the EU’s SFDR
  • The UK’s proposed own taxonomy linking back to the EU’s taxonomy regulation
  • The FCA’s strategy for ESG priorities published in November last year so that firms are aware of the regulator’s priorities
