Introduction

This in-person seminar will examine the important issues to be covered in a criminal trial, be it in the Magistrates’ Court or Crown Court.

Bad character & hearsay are frequently dealt with at trial however, this course will look at the many other issues which occur and are sometimes overlooked at the expense of these topics.

The seminar will focus on other important trial issues such as adverse inferences from silence, identification evidence, DNA evidence, and submissions of no case to answer.

As well as this, the course will look at how to deal with unexpected issues under the Criminal Procedure Rules. What about that witness who has turned up and not been notified to the court? What about the point of law that has just been raised and was not mentioned in advance? What about re-opening my case and calling evidence in rebuttal?

This course is designed to bring together the law and reality, giving practical guidance on how to deal with day-to-day issues in criminal trials.
