SRA Competency B

Introduction

There is no denial that competition policy is at a crossroads.

The emergence of online platforms, the strategic importance of data to gain competitive advantages as well as mergers and acquisitions in the digital field have led to a re-think about the application of competition rules.

As part of its digital markets strategy, the Competition and Markets Authority (‘CMA’) is currently undertaking a market study into online platforms and the digital advertising market in the UK. The European Commission is presently reflecting on a report on competition policy for the digital era, which it recently commissioned. A number of other competition authorities worldwide are doing the same.

Behind this background and ongoing competition probes into big companies such as Facebook, Amazon and Google it is, therefore, essential for any competition law practitioner to know about current and future developments in this field. This live broadcast presented by Dr Alexandra von Westernhagen, will walk you step by step through the most important issues in these areas and suggested solutions.
