Introduction

The implementation of Universal Credit (UC) across the country is now accelerating, as the DWP ramps up the Managed Migration to UC of people on old-style ‘legacy’ benefits such as Tax Credits and Housing Benefit. All Jobcentres are now implementing the Managed Migration system, which will have significant implications for many of your clients.

The webinar is aimed at people working in a legal setting who need to feel confident and updated in their knowledge of Universal Credit, especially in the context of the annual increase in benefit rates and the recent changes introduced in recent Budgets.

Please note that the webinar is not suitable for specialist benefits caseworkers and will not address immigration-related benefits issues.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • A quick refresher on the basics of Universal Credit, including useful terminology and principles
  • The migration of people from ‘legacy benefits’ to UC - getting the timing right, how entitlement is protected if the UC award is less, compulsory vs optional migration
  • Coping with increased ‘conditionality’, avoiding sanctions and pitfalls, using the law to protect vulnerable clients
  • New (positive) rules affecting help with housing costs for private sector tenants
  • Vital differences between legacy benefits and UC in some of the rules regarding trusts

This pre-recorded webinar will be streamed at 12:30pm on Thursday 27th June 2024 and will remain available to view by delegates who have registered by then for 90 days.
