Training & Competence: Meeting FCA’s Requirements

Introduction

Effective Training and Competence (T&C) remains a fundamental part of the FCA’s expectations of regulated firms. Since the introduction of the Senior Managers and Certification Regime and Consumer Duty, the focus has increasingly shifted to how firms assess, maintain, monitor, and evidence their people's competence and capability.

In 2027, firms are expected to clearly understand the capabilities required for different roles, have robust arrangements to assess and maintain competence, and provide appropriate oversight to identify and address gaps. T&C arrangements should also support wider regulatory expectations, including the Conduct Rules, Senior Managers’ responsibilities and delivering good outcomes for consumers.

This practical webinar explores T&C through the regulator’s lens, considering what effective arrangements look like in practice and, importantly, what evidence a firm should be able to produce to demonstrate that its approach is working.
