Introduction

Accountancy practices in Ireland are classified as Designated Persons under the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010, as amended. This means that the firm itself is legally responsible for complying with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Terrorist Financing (CTF) obligations.

In this context, the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) holds a key function within the firm, with responsibility for overseeing internal reporting, assessing suspicions, and making external disclosures to the relevant authorities.

In this webinar, AML expert Elaine Jackson of Process Accountants will provide a practical introduction to the role of the MLRO and the core compliance obligations required within an accountancy practice.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • A brief overview of the key principles of AML regulation in Ireland
  • The role and responsibilities of the MLRO
  • The core compliance obligations required within an accountancy practice
  • Internal reporting procedures and staff responsibilities when escalating concerns
  • External reporting obligations of the MLRO, including regulatory requirements and interaction with authorities
  • Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) - identification and submission
  • Apply knowledge through practical case study examples
