Introduction

This webinar will explore how discrimination risks arise across key social housing functions, including tenancy management, ASB, enforcement, and possession decision making. It will provide a practical overview of the legal framework underpinning equality duties in social housing, with a particular focus on how decision makers should apply proportionality when balancing legitimate aims against the impact on individuals with protected characteristics.

The webinar will also consider the Public Sector Equality Duty, explaining what it requires in practice and how housing providers can demonstrate lawful and defensible decision making. Particular emphasis will be placed on the duty to make reasonable adjustments, including how and when that duty is triggered, what constitutes a reasonable adjustment in a housing context, and common pitfalls that lead to legal challenge.
