Introduction

This new full day course will explain how to avoid the common pitfalls that preclude a landlord, freeholder or management company from recovering possession from a tenant in the private sector. It will consider the quickest routes for recovering possession, the circumstances in which it may be possible to recover possession without a court order and the types of defences that can frustrate a landlord recovering possession.

Seemingly straight forward claims under ground 8 or section 21 of the Housing Act can often go wrong - and when they do they can be costly to your client.

This course is intended for solicitors, legal executives and other professionals who act for landlords.

What You Will Learn

This course will cover the following:

  • Ground 8, 10 and 11 - Housing Act 1988

  • Equality Act 2010 defences
  • The Immigration Act 2014 - how to recover possession from tenants without the right to rent
  • Abandonment and surrender
  • Evicting sub-tenants and unlawful occupiers
