SRA Competency B

The Localism Act 2011 encouraged local housing authorities to not only reduce the numbers on their ‘waiting lists’ but also exercise greater discretion as to who they will allocate their and their partner registered providers’ dwindling stock to, not least by reference to local connection and working households. This has not proved to be without legal challenge, in particular with reference to discrimination challenges and public law arguments.

This course is aimed at those working for local housing authorities and private practice advisors with a basic understanding of Part 6 allocations, and aims to provide clarity as to the legal underpinning of allocations.

What You Will Learn

This course will cover the following:

  • The statutory scheme
  • Flexibility afforded to local housing authorities
  • Common areas of concern/challenge
  • Residence requirements
  • Working household requirements
  • Connection with private rented sector offers
