Introduction

This half day course provides an introduction into bringing and defending disrepair claims and an update on recent developments in the area.

According to the English Housing Survey 2016-2017, 16.8% of privately tenanted properties contain Category 1 HHSRS hazards - that is 756,000 households, at least 36% of which contain children - and 244,000 social tenanted properties contain Category 1 hazards.

Housing standards are now back in the spotlight. The Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation and Liability for Housing Standards) Bill 2017-19 is currently making its way through Parliament, with Government support, and in April 2018 the Labour party pledged to 'restore publicly funded legal advice for housing'.

The course is aimed at advisors dealing with disrepair claims on behalf of tenants, private landlords, local authorities or providers of social housing.
