Introduction

Recent legislative developments to the Online Safety/Sexual Offences framework have introduced new offences relating to the creation and dissemination of sexually explicit deepfakes. These offences, whilst primarily sexual, also cross over into malicious communication territory because of the use they are frequently put to by the creators.

This bitesize webinar looks at the new offences and consequences on conviction. It also looks at some other changes to the ancillary orders and breaches coming into force very soon. Such ancillary orders may well follow on conviction for deepfakes offences.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • Identifying when a defence meets the required evidential threshold
  • How to assess reasonable belief in consent in courtroom situations
  • How to apply relevant case law to live decision-making
  • Recognising procedural and evidential pitfalls
  • How to strengthen confidence in handling emerging sexual offences cases

This pre-recorded webinar will be available to view from Tuesday 7th July 2026
