Introduction

Many professionals have the technical skills at their disposal to do their jobs to a very high standard but need to develop their personal and business skills in order to get the outcomes that they want at work.

Over the last decade, there has been a shift from working predominately face to face in an office environment, to a hybrid working model. You may be working from home, or a combination of days in the office and from home. This, together with the move to digital ways of working, has impacted interpersonal skills development including effective communication, efficient team working, motivation, and management of performance and accountability.

This virtual classroom workshop will cover best practice in communication, time management, delegation and coaching, delivering feedback, handling conflict and difficult situations and specifically how this is best achieved in a hybrid environment.

A series of practical exercises and case studies will be used and delegates will be given the chance to discuss the challenges that they face.

This session is aimed at any business professional who is seeking to be more effective in the hybrid workplace and get more out of their day. The programme is typically targeted at junior managers, though other members of a hybrid team will also benefit from attending.

Find out:

  • How to apply practical prioritisation techniques to manage workload, maintain focus and avoid remote-working productivity traps
  • How to communicate with clarity and impact in both in-person and virtual settings, adapting tone and approach to meet the needs of different audiences
  • How to adapt management styles to support, motivate and influence colleagues and team members in a hybrid environment

What You Will Learn

The workshop will cover:

  • How to set clear, outcome-focused objectives and track progress against priorities in a hybrid working environment
    • Being outcome-focused means you deliver better results. Delegates will learn how to establish goals, how to ensure they deliver against expectations, and how to track progress.
  • Making the most of your day
    • How to plan and schedule your time effectively and distinguish between urgent and important tasks. We will also cover how to maintain your focus and energy and stay motivated in a hybrid environment
  • Management styles
    • Managing people remotely requires greater intentionality and flexibility than in a fully office-based setting. We will explore how management expectations differ between in-person and remote team members, how to identify the risks when managing remotely, and adapting your management style. We’ll discuss practical approaches to maintaining accountability, trust, and engagement.
  • Influence and Communication
    • Effective communication requires different approaches depending on whether you are working face-to-face or remotely. We will explore the key differences between in-person and virtual communication, including visibility, tone, and potential for misunderstanding. We will cover best practice in digital communication including making the best use of digital communication tools, remote meeting etiquette, and digital body language. We will also explore how different personality and social styles impact on our relationships and how adapting our own style can reap huge rewards when dealing with others in the workplace.
  • Assertiveness
    • We will distinguish between assertive, aggressive, and passive behaviours and how to strike the right balance in a hybrid working environment. We will introduce a simple three step model to get a point across clearly without seeming rude.
  • Feedback
    • Giving and receiving feedback is critical but often shied away from and can be even more challenging in a hybrid world. We will cover how to structure feedback clearly and constructively whether delivered in-person or remotely and practise using a simple, structured feedback model.
  • Managing conflict
    • Conflict can be harder to identify and resolve in a hybrid environment where misunderstandings are more likely and informal resolution is less common. We will look at how to recognise the early signs of conflict, how digital communication can escalate misunderstandings, and how to apply practical resolution strategies to both in-person and remote scenarios.
  • Motivation
    • Motivation is crucial to effectiveness in the workplace. We will discuss what motivates people and the strategies that can be adopted to maximise self-motivation and, for those managing teams, the motivation of others.
