This course will uncover the key aspects of cross border transactions and VAT. It is aimed at those advising clients who supply goods or services cross border.

  • Partial exemptions subject to the reverse charge
  • The importance of identifying the nature of supplies - goods & services
  • The rules applying to the cross-border movement of goods, including supplies to the EU and the Rest of the World
  • Key risks and opportunities around the movement of goods cross border and the implications post-Brexit
  • Key considerations to take into account in determining the 'place of supply of services' including the place of establishment, nature of supply and nature of the customer
  • The issues of services 'imported' from outside the UK and the application of the reverse charge
  • The different treatment of goods & services, the importance of that distinction and the respective reporting requirements
  • Recovery process for VAT correctly incurred in the EU
  • How to verify the bona fides of EU suppliers
  • Other EU reporting requirements including infrastructure & EC sales lists
